James joins Memphis from San Jacinto College
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis women's basketball head coach Melissa McFerrin has announced the signing of junior college transfer Jasmine James, a forward from Innisfil, Ontario, Canada, for the 2017-18 roster. James joins Memphis after competing at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas for the previous two seasons.
"I am excited to welcome Jasmine "J" James to our roster as an impactful interior presence with great mobility," said McFerrin. "She is extremely coachable and attentive to detail. Additionally, she helped lead her San Jacinto College team to the first-ever NJCAA National Tournament appearance in school history. She is a builder and a winner. J's signing makes us better on the court, in the locker room, and in the classroom."
James is currently ranked the No. 27 JUCO prospect and No. 7 JUCO Power Forward in the country by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. The soon-to-be junior averaged 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season while shooting over 46 percent from the field in 30 starts.
Her efforts on the court helped lead San Jacinto to a 24-9 overall record this season and its first-ever berth into the NJCAA National Tournament. At the end of the year, she was named to the Region XIV All-Conference Team. In all, her squad went 46-20 during her tenure and 28-12 in conference play.
In a 97-43 victory over Coastal Bend this season, James recorded her second career double-double. She finished the season with 19 double-figure performances including in each of the last nine games.
James joins Alana Davis, Finess Dickson, and Jada Stinson who signed during the early period last November.
