MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's and women's soccer programs each earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Thursday. The United Soccer Coaches was formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Memphis was one of 197 schools in the nation to have both the men's and the women's programs recognized. In all, 816 soccer teams (283 men, 533 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the award for this past school year.
Â
This is the ninth season the men's program has earned the Team Academic Award. Memphis finished the season with a program-best 3.57 GPA.
Â
The women's program has earned the Team Academic Award for 11-straight seasons dating back to 2007 and 14 seasons overall. The Tigers finished the season with a 3.71 cumulative GPA.
Â
Earlier this summer, both teams earned the American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award for their respective sports. It was the first time for the men's program and the fourth-straight year for the women's team to earn the award. Memphis is the only women's program to win the award.
