Ole Miss Up Next for Tigers in Spring Schedule
Mar 29, 2016 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's soccer team continues its spring schedule by hosting Ole Miss at Mike Rose Soccer Complex Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will be the second of five that the Tigers will play this spring.
"We're looking forward to the opportunity to play Ole Miss. We have a lot of respect for their program and they are coming off of a spectacular year, making it to the Sweet 16," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We know that we are going to be truly tested. It always seems to be a great game because of the rivalry."
Memphis claimed a 1-0 win over UT Martin in the first match of the spring. Senior Maryse Bard-Martel and sophomore Rachel Ashworth combined to post the shutout with a young back line playing in front of them.
Last fall the Ole Miss Rebels rallied from an early goal by Marie Levasseur to beat the Tigers 2-1 in overtime. The Rebels ended the season in the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a 14-5-4 record.
"As a team we are just looking to build off of our last performance. We won our last game but there are a lot of things that we can clean up. Our goal this spring is to get a little bit better with each match. We know we are going to have our hands full and we expect a great match," said Monaghan.
This is the second match of a five-game spring slate. The Tigers will next travel to Birmingham, Ala. to face UAB on April 3 for the only road match of the spring slate. The final two home matches will be played at the Park Avenue Campus and are against Vanderbilt on April 9 at noon and Southeast Missouri on April 17 at 4 p.m.
