Men’s Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Feb 24, 2016 | Men's Soccer
The University of Memphis men's soccer team will compete in six games for the spring 2016 season, head coach Richard Mulrooney announced Tuesday.
"These games are important because they are used as an evaluation," Mulrooney said. "It is about us in the spring. It is about us coming together in the spring to find out what didn't work out in the fall and improving upon the individuals. These aren't just 'friendly' games, they are games that both teams will want to win."
The first match of the spring will be played against West Alabama on February 27 at 1 p.m. on the Memphis Park Avenue Campus. The Tigers have never faced West Alabama, which started its men's soccer program in 2012.
Next the Tigers will travel to Conway, Ark, to take on the University of Central Arkansas on March 5. The Tigers have had plenty of success playing against UCA, holding a 10-1-0 all-time series record. They defeated UCA this past fall, 2-1.
The third game of the spring brings about foreign competition, in an International Friendly against Colaiste Ide on March 17 at 4 p.m. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The Tigers have some history with the international team from Ireland, as former Tigers Shane Keely and Liam Collins played for Colaiste Ide before coming to the University of Memphis.
Memphis will see some in-state play as they take on Union University on April 2 at 1 p.m. on the Memphis Park Avenue Campus.
Memphis will then travel to Birmingham, Ala. for their last road game of the spring season to face UAB on April 9. The Tigers lost to UAB this past fall at Mike Rose, 3-1.
The Tigers will finish out their season facing local talent from Christian Brothers University on April 13 at 7 p.m. at Mike Rose. Memphis has not faced CBU in a regular season game since 2000 but the teams met last spring where Memphis defeated CBU.
