Tigers battle rain and tough field on day one of now two-round event.
Tuesday Pairings | Complete First Round Scoring
MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's golf team had to weather the elements and a delay in play on Monday at the Trinity Forest Invitational presented by Vic Salvino. The storms that rolled through the Dallas area forced the teams off the field shortly after players made their opening round turn and prevented them from finishing both rounds of play on Monday. All teams did complete one round, and redshirt sophomore Michaela Fletcher is in the top 15 with an opening round 76 (+4).
Fletcher carded two birdies on the day, including one on her third hole of play on 17. She was +3 after playing the front nine holes and was at +3 until a double bogey on 13 pushed her to +6. But she battled back with a birdie on 14, her final hole of the round, to finish tied for 13th through the first round.
Leighann Cabush carded an 80 on her opening round. She, like Fletcher, birdied 17 and was -1 when she rolled around to the first hole on the course. She finished the round four strokes behind Fletcher and tied for 38th overall.
Sydney Colwill and Andrea Cropper ended the opening round with a pair of 82s (+10). Colwill birdied her second hole (18) for her lone birdie on the day, while Cropper birdied five, seven and 16 to finish with her 82.
Emily Goldenstein is tied for 61st a stroke behind Colwill and Cropper after her opening round 83.
Number 46 ranked Michigan leads the field with a first round 304. Number 21 Texas A&M is second with a 305 and number 21 Baylor and number 25 Ohio State are tied at third with 306s.
Texas A&M's Bianca Fabrizio, the number 28 ranked player in the country, carded the lone round under par on Monday, firing a 71 (-1). No other player carded par or better on a stormy first day.
The second round, which will be the final round in the event, will tee off at 8 a.m. (CT), Tuesday. If the weather clears, live scoring will be available at www.GolfStat.com.
