Tigers Cross Country Runs In Friday's Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Memphis junior Martina Rodriguez Sala and senior Corentin Louis paced the Tigers women's and men's cross country squads, respectively, at the University of Alabama's Crimson Classic Friday evening.
The race gave Memphis an opportunity to run on the Harry Pritchett Running Park course, which also is the host site for the NCAA South Regional where the Tigers will compete in November.
The women's squad placed 12th in the 5k event, and the men were 20th in their 8k race.
Rodriguez Sala was the Tigers women's top finisher, crossing the line in 37th place in a time of 17:58.46. For the men, Louis placed 92nd overall in a time of 26:34.89.
Following Rodriquez Sala on the women's side were sophomore Megan Briley and junior Abigail Tankersley. Briley placed 76th in a time of 18:46.62, and Tankersley was 80th in a time of 18:51.11.
The Tigers women's squad remains without the services of sophomore Kristen Adams, who has yet to run this season due to rehabbing an injury. Last year, Adams was the squad's top finisher in five of the six races and earned All-American Athletic Conference honors.
On the men's side, senior Brandon Keys was the second Tiger to cross the finish line, placing 116th in a time of 27:15.38. Freshman Kaleb Simington posted the team's third-best finish, coming in 121st place in a time of 27:23.89.
The injury bug also has hit the Tigers men's team. For the third-straight race, freshman Diego Lara Delgado did not run. Lara Delgado was the Tigers' second finisher at the season-opening Brooks Twilight Classic. Although suffering from a couple of injuries, senior Stephen Tankersley pushed through and competed Friday, completing the course in a time of 28:22.02 (147th).
Memphis returns to action at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championships in Greenville, N.C., Oct. 31.
