Aug 12, 2014 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS - Five days of camp has prepared the University of Memphis women's soccer team for their first exhibition match on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The match against Mississippi State will take place at the Park Avenue Campus practice field, located at 1115 Getwell Loop next to the football turf field.
Admission to the match is FREE. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to see our new players compete at this level," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "That's our approach, to play a lot of players. That's very important to see how prepared they are to compete at this level."
Memphis returns a veteran squad this season with 10 starters returning. Two of those starters will be missing as Kylie Davis and Valerie Sanderson represent Canada at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Mississippi State is coming off a 3-15 season in 2013 and features a roster with seven returning players and 19 newcomers.
"They (Mississippi State) are a young team with a newer coach and they will come out and play with a lot of passion," Monaghan added. "Exhibition games are hard to predict. I don't know if they've rested their kids for this game or not, but we haven't. It's very unpredictable, but we are going into this game to take a look at as many players as possible heading into the season."
