Two former University of Memphis lettermen are set to take over the leadership of the University's M-Club. Dwight Boyd, a basketball letterman and M Club Hall of Fame inductee, has been hired as the new director and Lish Trice, a Tiger football defensive lineman, will serve the organization as the coordinator of membership enrollment.
"We are delighted to have Dwight Boyd join the athletic department staff as our M Club director," said Athletics Director Tom Bowen. "He played a large role in the accomplishments of the Tiger basketball teams in the 1980's and has remained a loyal supporter of our athletic programs in his previous position with Pepsi. His name alone lends credibility to our letterman's club and we anticipate an immediate impact".
Boyd, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, lettered for the Tiger basketball team from 1984-88. He appeared in 135 games during his four-year career and scored 1,249 points. He averaged 15.2 points per game as a senior and remains the 21st ranked scorer in Memphis basketball history. The Tigers had a combined record of 105-30 during his career and played in three NCAA Post Season Tournaments, including the Final Four in 1985.
Following graduation, Boyd began a career in the marketing division with Pepsi Cola and worked for 22 years with the soft drink giant.
"Lish Trice has served this institution for almost 20 years and has taken on every task assigned," Bowen continued. "Given his relationship with former athletes and his determination to see this department succeed, we feel he will work tirelessly to increase membership."
Trice, who played defensive end for the Tigers for two years, arrived on campus as a junior college transfer in 1989. A native of Henderson, Tennessee, Trice became a starter at defensive end and appeared in all 11 games of the 1989 season. He registered 10 tackles in the Florida game and by the end of the season he had amassed 35 tackles and was the team leader in tackles for lost yardage, quarterback sacks and blocked kicks. At the conclusion of the 1989 season Trice received the Chris Faros Most Improved Player Award. The Chester County High School graduate led the squad in quarterback sacks and tackles for loss as a senior and contributed 33 tackles. Trice joined the staff at the University of Memphis as a member of the marketing/sales staff in 1993 and became the assistant to the athletic director in 1996.
