Sherrod Named Capital One Academic All-American

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Memphis men' soccer player Mark Sherrod was named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. The team, voted on by the CoSIDA membership, recognizes top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
In 2012, Sherrod led the Tigers in goals (12) and points (28), while sporting a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.48 majoring in civil engineering. This is the second-straight year that the Knoxville, Tenn., native received the academic accolade, taking third-team honors in 2011.
Sherrod's many academic and athletic honors while donning the Blue and Gray include, being named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, 2011 NSCAA All-America third team, 2011 NSCAA All-Midwest Region first team, 2011 Conference USA Player of the Year, C-USA Offensive Player of the Year (2012, 2011), 2011 All-C-USA first team (2012, 2011) and the C-USA All-Academic Team (2012, 2011).
