MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis baseball team will be accepting donations to help Mid-South flood victims recover from the rising waters in the Bluff City.
Tiger Baseball will begin the food and clothing drive on Tuesday, May 17, as donation drop off areas will be made available at the gates of AutoZone Park prior to the matchup with Mississippi State at 6:30 p.m. The U of M will also be accepting donations at FedExPark in the final home series of the season that begins on Thursday, May 19.
"Anytime we can give back to the community, we definitely want to do that," head coach Daron Schoenrock said. "We encourage everybody that comes out to watch any of the remaining home games to participate in this very worthy cause."
Donations received will be given to the Hope Presbyterian shelter in Cordova, Tenn. Hope is one of three shelters open in the Shelby County and serves more than 150 displaced residents. Shelters are in need of batteries, ear plugs, new socks for all ages, flip flops, shaving cream/gel, Wal-Mart/Target gift cards, men's/women's deodorant, shampoo/conditioner along with general first-aid items.
