MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Junior guards Brittany Carter and Ramses Lonlack each grabbed a Conference USA honor in the post-season awards announced on Sunday. Carter grabbed her second straight First Team All-Conference USA Award, while Lonlack grabbed a second straight C-USA All-Defensive Team Award.
Carter becomes the first Tiger to earn first team all-conference honors since Tamika Whitmore grabbed her three straight honors from 1997-1999. Carter becomes one of just five players in Memphis history to earn two or more first team honors. Whitmore was a three-time All-C-USA honoree, LaTonya Johnson was a two-time All-C-USA, Keeta Matthews was a three-time Great Midwest first teamer and Regina Street was a two-time All-Metro first team award winner.
The junior guard has missed the last five games with a foot injury and battled hand and tailbone injuries this season, but still led Memphis in scoring with 13.9 ppg. She is just four points shy of her 1,000th career point in just her second season at Memphis and ranks second on the Tigers' roster in steals and assists.
Lonlack is making her second consecutive appearance on the C-USA All-Defensive Team. She ranks in the Memphis career top 10 in steals with 231 in three seasons as a Tiger. She ranks sixth in Conference USA in steals per game (2.3/game) and has stepped up to average almost 10 points a game (9.2) for Memphis. She is also the team's third-leading rebounder with 4.4 rebounds per game and has grabbed 202 of her 462 career rebounds off the offensive glass for Memphis.
Memphis is the No. 6 seed for the upcoming 2011 Buick Conference USA Championships. The Tigers will face No. 11 seed Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m. (MT) on Wednesday with the winner facing No. 3 seed Rice, Thursday, also at 2:30 p.m. (MT).
