MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The University of Memphis women's basketball team will be without the services of freshman point guard Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir for the 2009-2010 season after she suffered a torn ACL Friday it was announced by Melissa McFerrin, Tuesday.
"Obviously, we are really disappointed for Bilqis," McFerrin said. "She has a wonderful, competitive spirit and was showing very good early development on the floor. Our coaches and players will support her through her surgery and rehab months. She will return stronger than ever and we'll look forward to having her back on the court next fall."
Abdul-Qaadir will undergo surgery to repair the tear, then will rehab the entire 2009-2010 season. She will be eligible to apply for the medical redshirt, then have four years of eligibility remaining beginning with the 2010-2011 season.
