Freshman Jack Belote fired a final round 71 to help lead the University of Memphis men's golf team into a 7th place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The tournament was played at the 7,100 yard par 71 Vanderbilt Legends Club with Vanderbilt University as the host school.
Belote finished 17th with a three day total of 215 (76-68-71). He was followed by Jordan Payne, Brad Benjamin, and Mark Trow who all posted totals of 219 (72-76-71), 219 (73-77-69), and 219 (76-69-74), respectively. All three finished in a tie for 35th. Jeff Hall carded a total of 222 (74-71-77) to finish 53rd.
"Although we could have done better, this is a solid start to the season. I'm confident that we can use this as a learning experience and build off of it," said Tiger head coach Grant Robbins.
The Tigers moved up three spots on the leader board and finished 7th with a three day team total of 864 (295-284-285).
Senior Brad Benjamin posted his lowest score since the Rice Intercollegiate last season, where he also carded a 69.
"Brad had a rough day on Saturday, but I'm proud of him for showing some mental toughness and coming back today. Hopefully, he can build off the momentum from today to get ready for the next tournament," said Coach Robbins.
The Tigers return to action when they host the Memphis Intercollegiate on October 6-7 at Colonial Country Club.
