SOUTHAVEN, Miss.--When participants of Southaven's Field of Dreams baseball league came to sign-up for the upcoming season, they got quite a treat as Head Coach Daron Schoenrock and the University of Memphis baseball team were there for a special Meet-and-Greet session as well as to donate a few items to support the league that serves special-needs children in the Mid-South.
Not only did the Tiger baseball team donate their time to interact with the league's players, but they came bearing donated gifts from team sponsors, Adidas and Louisville Slugger/TPX. Adidas, donated shirts, while Louisville Slugger donated gloves to the league, and wristbands to all of its players. Cline Tours was also instrumental in helping the Tigers make the event a success. The bus company donated the bus, driven by U of M Baseball bus driver Andrew Moore, to transport the Tigers to and from the Field of Dreams.
Members of the Memphis baseball team interacted with the league's participants, running bases, playing tag, signing autographs and posters, taking pictures and talking, before the presentation of the donated items and special check presentation by the Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors to go towards team uniforms and end-of-the-year trophies.
While Memphis enters the second half of its 56-game regular season schedule, the Field of Dreams players are just getting loose as their season is set to start on April 22. The league has two games every Tuesday at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
