MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's soccer team opened play in its third tournament today in Evansville, Ind., and scored a pair of goals in each period while allowing only six shots to defeat IPFW, 4-0. The shutout is Tyler Strom's third of the season and indicative of his performance which has him atop Conference USA goalkeepers this season.
Sophomore Brian Farrell and junior Jordan Lynn each scored their first goals of the season in the first half. Both scores were from deep in the box; Jared Britcher and Thomas Hyland assisted on Farrell's goal, and Farrell was credited with the assist on Lynn's goal.
The Tiger defense allowed only one Mastodon shot on goal in the match. It came during the first period.
With the win, Memphis improves to 3-1-2 on the season. The Tigers return to action Sunday afternoon against Mercer.
