Two Sign With Memphis Women's Golf Program

MEMPHIS, TENN. --- - University of Memphis women's golf coach Jenny Bruun announced the signing of Kathleen Glavin and Marissa Steen to National Letters of Intent to play for the Lady Tigers in 2008-09.
"I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to sign two of the elite players out of Ohio," Lady Tiger Head Coach Jenny Bruun said. "Not only have Marissa and Kathleen been extremely successful student-athletes, but more importantly they are incredible people. They both know what it takes to be successful at the highest level and aren't afraid to put in the necessary work it takes to reach the top. I only see our program continuing to improve with the addition of Kathleen and Marissa as the work ethic and positive attitude they bring to the table are beyond contagious. I am looking forward to four years of success with this class."
Glavin joins the squad from Dayton, Ohio, where she attends Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio. She holds a 3.861 grade point average and ranks in the top 20 percent of her class. Glavin has competed at the local, state and national level and had one of her top finishes last summer, playing in the consolation match at the Western Junior. She has been named to the first team All Girls' Greater Cincinnati League for four consecutive years and finished her senior year in high school with a 36.4 average. The daughter of Bob and Sheila Glavin, she also plays softball for AAHS.
A native of West Chester, Ohio, Steen preps at Lakota West High School. She is in the top 10 percent of her class with a 4.0 grade point average. Steen is the 2007 Ohio Junior Girls Champion, which was held at Marion Country Club. She played on the dominating Lakota West Girls' Varsity golf team for four years and participated in the Ohio State tournament each year. She helped her team to a state championship in 2006 and a third-place finish at state in 2007. The daughter of Tod and Kathy Steen, she also played competitive softball, basketball and soccer for more than eight years before deciding to concentrate solely on golf.
The two Ohio signees will give the Lady Tigers three Ohio natives for the 2008-09 roster, as they will join Alexa Porter from Elyria who is currently a freshman on the Lady Tiger squad.
Bruun, the 2007 C-USA Women's Golf Coach of the Year, returns three Lady Tigers from last season's C-USA championship squad.
The Lady Tigers will begin their spring season at Campbell University's Fighting Camel Classic in Buies Creek, N.C., on February 25.
