MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In what head coach Daron Schoenrock says will become an annual event, the Memphis baseball program will host the 2006 Meet the Tigers Banquet, February 17, 2006 at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis. Festivities are slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
This year's event will take place on the eve of the Tigers' home and season-opening matchup with Mid-American Conference opponent, Ohio University, on February 18 at 2 p.m.
Sponsored by the University of Memphis Bullpen Club, the evening will include preseason comments from Schoenrock, an introduction of the 2006 Tiger roster, and highlighting the night will be keynote speaker, Keith Madison, former head baseball coach at the University of Kentucky.
Madison guided the Wildcat's program for 25 years and became the most successful coach in the 108-year history of the University of Kentucky baseball. He finished his career at Kentucky with 737 wins, ranking him second in wins among active SEC coaches. Under Madison's guidance, Kentucky appeared in the Top-25 in 11 of Madison's 25 years at the helm. Madison led the 1988 Wildcats to the school's first NCAA Regional appearance in 38 years. Madison served as pitching coach for Team USA in 1999. The following year he began his stint as President of the American Baseball Coaches' Association. He retired from coaching following the 2003 season and worked in the Development Office at Kentucky from 2003-04. In 2004 he became the Fellowship of Christian Athlete's National Director for College Baseball--a post he continues to serve in today.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Madison join us for this event," Schoenrock said. "He impacted the lives of so many people through the years and is well-respected among all involved with college baseball."
Tickets for the banquet are $45 each and are limited due to space available. However, tickets can be reserved by contacting Barbara Chapman in the Memphis baseball office at (901) 678-2452.
