Men's Track and Field Adds Six Signees

Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis men's track and field team has announced that addition of six signees for the upcoming 2005-06 seasons. The group of four freshmen and two transfers will provide a solid mixture of youth and experience for several years to come.
The two transfers, Tyler Frazier, from Hutchinson Community College, and Stephon Greenlee, from Abilene Christian University, are the most accomplished members of the group and should have an immediate impact for the Tigers.
Frazier, a native of Wichita, Kan., brings a unique combination of events to the U of M, as he will compete in the javelin and pole vault. The junior, a 2005 NJCAA All-American in the javelin, will almost certainly have a chance to score in his first season in Conference USA.
Greenlee, an accomplished hurdler, was a NCAA Division II national finalist in the 400m hurdles last season and has top times that rival the best performances in C-USA last season.
The four freshmen, J. D. Tweedy, Richard Swaby, Greg Norrid and Harding Zills, are each talented athletes that are relatively unproven, but are expected to show great improvements with increased training and technical adjustments.
Tweedy, from Cross Creek High School in Augusta, Ga., was a regional champion in both the 200m and 400m and has the potential to be one of Memphis' top sprinters.
Swaby is a long jump and triple jump specialist from Wolmers Boys High School in Kingston, Jamaica. He too should have a chance to contribute early in his career.
Norrid, from Bartlett High in Bartlett, Tenn., and Zills, from Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, Ala., are both rawly talented throwers who will contribute in the near future. Both were talented all-around athletes in high school and will participate in a number of events at the U of M.
In addition to the six newcomers this fall, the Memphis coaches expect to add several more signees to complete the squad for the spring semester.
The new Tigers and their teammates will take to the track for their first competition in early December as they participate in Arkansas State University's Kickoff Klassic.
