Men's Cross Country Competes in First Meet

Little Rock, Ark. - The Memphis men's cross country team competed in its first meet of the season this past weekend, as the squad traveled to Little Rock to compete in the UALR Open, hosted by the University of Arkansas Little Rock.
Junior Avi Shaposhnik led the way for U of M in the 8K race, completing the course in a time of 32:34 to finish 41st overall.
Sophomore Sam James finished just behind Shaposhnik, taking 42nd place with a time of 32:35, while newcomers Juan Arboleda, Jefferson Brandt and Daniel Abebe rounded out the scoring for the U of M, finishing 43rd, 46th and 49th, respectively, with times of 32:35, 34:29 and 36:22.
Oklahoma University took home the team title in the meet, while unattached runner Jason Coleman claimed the top individual spot.
The Memphis men's squad will now have a weekend off in preparation for their second meet of the season.
