STILLWATER, Okla. - Memphis dropped its second game in a row, 91-42, against Oklahoma State after shooting just 30 percent for the game, getting out-rebounded 47-28 and committing 28 turnovers. The loss drops the Lady Tigers to 2-8 on the season with just one non-conference game remaining.
"In order for us to come out and beat a good team, we're going to have to play hard and overachieve," Assistant Coach Jay Bowen said. "We don't have enough talent to not play hard and not make a big effort and OSU did a good job tonight of coming out and being the aggressor and scrapping and getting a hand on every last ball."
One of the more physical teams that Memphis has seen this season, OSU out-rebounded Memphis 24-16 in the opening half and with their size inside, posted two blocks, dropping the Lady Tiger shooting percentage to 19.2 for the opening 20 minutes. The first half deficit was something that the Lady Tigers were never able to get fired up enough to try to tackle, as OSU continued to pound the boards, holding Memphis to just 14 second half rebounds in the win. The win gives OSU their fourth straight win, and moves them over .500 for the first time this season.
Devin Necaise led Memphis with 11 points, while Tamika Butler added 10 before rolling her ankle early in the second half.
The Lady Tigers were in Stillwater without Head Coach Blair Savage, who did not travel with the team after she and her husband, Bill Lansden, remained back to finalize the adoption process of their first two children.
Memphis will return to action following the holiday break, when the Lady Tigers host nationally-ranked Georgia, Dec. 29th, at FedExForum at 7 p.m. A variety of promotions will be available for the Georgia game, including free admission for AAU and MAM teams with their jerseys and the coupon that is available off the Tiger's official website at www.gotigersgo.com. Group tickets are also available for groups of 10 or more for $2.00 per person. Parking in the Ford parking garage will also be available for $10 on a first-come, first-serve basis. The lower bowl seats will be used for the Memphis/Georgia game.
