Men's Cross Country Finishes Second in SEMO Invitational

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Memphis men's cross country squad completed regular-season slate Saturday with a second-place finish at the SEMO Invitational as junior Abraham Shaposhnik led the Tigers with a ninth-place showing.
Shaposhnik, who has led the team in two of three meets, crossed the line in a time of 17:26 for the 5K race to take top team honors for the U of M and claim ninth overall.
Juan Arboleda finished second on the team and 14th overall with a time of 18:25. Jefferson Brant was third on the team and 15th overall in a time of 20:12, while Sam James and Daniel Abebe rounded out the scoring for the U of M, finishing 16th and 17th, respectively, in times of 20:32 and 21:24.
Memphis totaled 44 points in the meet to finish second behind host Southeast Missouri, which took the team title with just 15 points. SEMO's Gabe Lutes claimed medalist honors with a time of 16:16.
The men's cross country squad will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 29, as they travel to Orlando, Fla., for the Conference USA Cross Country Championships, their final meet of the 2005 season.
