Cross Country Competes at Chile Pepper Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.-The University of Memphis Men's and Women's Cross Country teams finished 15th and 27th respectively at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Classic on Saturday. The meet consisted of 70 teams and over 500 runners.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Senior Adam Didyk. Didyk finished 34th in the 10K run with a time of 30:51.22. It was the second consecutive week that Didyk was the Tiger's top runner. Last week he placed third at the Saluki Invitational and was named C-USA Athlete of the Week. Junior Mate Nemeth finished in 47th place with a time of 31:08.03. Nemeth, who did not compete last week as he continues to train and recoverf rom offseason surgery, gave a solid effort for the Tigers. Senior Kym Morgan finished 57th witha time of 31:21.26, while Sophomore Szabi Karadi placed 125th (32:39.67) and Sophomore Imran Mahmood finished 220th (35:43.44).
Westley Keating of Texas-Pan American won the individual title with a time of 29:25.86. Arkansas won the team competition with 78 points, followed by Oklahoma (130) and Alabama with 154 points. The Tigers scored 409 points and finished 15th of 33 schools.
On the women's side, true freshman Mary Claire Dake finished 135th with a time of 23:49.00. It was the first time this fall that Dake finished as the lady Tigers top finisher. Senior Ali Baker ran a 24:05.19 in the 6K race to place 147th. True freshman Kara Cassel finished 174th with a time of 24:30.41. Other Lady Tiger runners were Freshman Daniele Riendeau who finished 187th (24:44.54), Freshman Michel Wilson placed 193rd (24:54.15), Freshman Becca McMahon finished 231st (25:46.86) and Freshman Kimberly McVeigh finished 246th with a time of 26:18.35
Marlies Overbeeke of Virginia Tech won the individual race title with a time of 20:47.42. Nevada won the team competition with 114 points, followed by Texas tech (122) and Arkansas with 153 points. The Lady Tigers placed 27th of 37 teams with 726 points.
Both the Men and Women now turn their attention to the C-USA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 to be hosted by South Florida in Tampa.
