MEMPHIS, TENN. - The Lady Tigers look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host Saint Louis on Sunday at The Pyramid. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m., and the game will be televised live by WLMT-UPN30 with commentary from Greg Gaston and former Lady Tiger guard Heather Phillips.
The Lady Tigers enter the game with an 8-10 overall record, 2-3 in C-USA, after dropping back-to-back C-USA meetings with DePaul and Marquette this past weekend on the road. Shannon Hamp led Memphis' efforts against Marquette with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the second double-double of her career. She is the only Lady Tiger this season to score 20 or more points in a game, and has accomplished that feat four times as a junior.
Melissa Abraham also pulled down 10 boards against Marquette, marking the first time in over a year that two Lady Tigers have recorded 10-plus rebounds in a single game. Abraham, who totals 11 career double-doubles, currently leads Memphis in rebounding, hauling in an average of 8.7 boards a game. She has pulled down 10 or more rebounds in nine of the last 11 games.
Junior Shannon Hamp has led Memphis in scoring every week this season and currently averages 15.9 points per game. She has scored in double digits in 16 of 18 games this season. Junior point guard Kalara McFadyen leads the squad in steals with 61 and averages 4.4 assists per game. McFadyen ranks 20th nationally in steals per game with an average of 3.4.
Saint Louis (10-8, 3-2) is off to its best ever league start after upsetting DePaul, 50-48, on the road last weekend. SLU has also won three of their last four games, including a 57-56 defeat over then-20th ranked Tulane.
Angie Lewis leads the Billikens in scoring and rebounding with 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds a game. She had scored in double figures in 15 straight games before DePaul limited her to just six points. The Billikens are 2-6 in road games this season, and are averaging just 57.8 points per game. To counteract their low scoring, their defense is also limiting its opponents to just 58.7 points per contest and forcing 21 turnovers a game.
The Lady Tigers own a 17-1 series advantage over SLU, dating back to the 1976-77 season. Memphis has won the last four straight meetings over the Billikens, including a 64-55 victory in St. Louis to open the C-USA season. The Lady Tigers are 6-1 over SLU in games played in Memphis. Their only loss to the Billikens was a 73-72 defeat in Memphis during the 1998-99 season.
