Women's Soccer Sails Over Green Wave, 3-2

NEW ORLEANS - The University of Memphis Lady Tiger soccer team (6-5, 2-3) grabbed their sixth win of the season over the Green Wave of Tulane (5-6, 2-3) Friday evening, by a score of 3-2. With this win, the Lady Tigers have now eclipsed last season's win total of five. Freshman forward Jessica Gjertsen found the net twice in Memphis' first conference road win of 2000 which now gives her 12 goals on the year.
After a scoreless first half, Memphis took an early 1-0 lead in the second period, after Gjertsen scored in the 51st minute and then increased the lead 18 minutes later when she struck again, to give the Lady Tigers a commanding 2-0 advantage. The Green Wave would battle with two back-to-back srikes of their own, tying the game at two with just under six minutes in regulation. Memphis would then shut the door during the 87th minute when senior defender Tori Winslett scored off a header, for the game-winner.
Megan Stack scored two goals for Tulane, in the loss.
Memphis will be looking for it's second C-USA victory in-a-row when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. for a match against the Lady Eagles of Southern Miss on Sunday, October 1st at 1 p.m. Their next home match will be on Friday, October 13th at 7 p.m. They will host the Cardinals of Louisville in a key Conference USA match-up.
