Wanda Simpson

Wanda Simpson-Jones came to the University of Memphis in 1982 after a successful playing career at Southwest Tennessee Community College.
She played in 28 games during her junior season, averaging 9.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds. Simpson-Jones had a 23 point, 16 rebound effort against Tulane as a junior, as well as a 21 point, 12 rebound performance against Indiana.
She started 28 games as a senior and upped her scoring average to 12.2 points per contest while grabbing 9.9 rebounds.
Following graduation from the University in 1986, Simpson-Jones was hired as an assistant coach by Mary Lou Johns in 1987 and remained on the Lady Tiger staff until 1992.
She was hired as the head women's basketball coach at East High School in the fall of 1992 and has directed the Lady Mustang program for the past 13 years. The Mustangs captured back-to-back city, district and regional championships in 2001-02 and 2002-03, while reaching the state semifinals in 2002 and the state quarterfinals in 2003.
Simpson-Jones was named the District 16AAA Coach of the Year in 2003. She was inducted into the Southwest Tennessee Community College Hall of Fame in 2003.
