Ollie Keller, an outstanding prep football player at Maryville High School, transferred to Memphis from the University of Tennessee in 1953. He played both football and basketball for the Tigers for two years and received Little All-America and Middle All-America honors following the 1953 season. Keller served as team captain in 1953 and was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities that same year. Following graduation, Keller began a long and distinguished career in education and coaching. Following a stint at three high schools, Keller was hired as a coach at Iowa State University in 1968 and returned to the Tigers as a quarterback coach in 1970 under Billy J. Murphy. He left Memphis to become the head football coach at Northeast Louisiana University in 1972 and remained with the Indians for four years. Since ending his collegiate coaching career in 1976, he continued his career in education serving as principal at Fairview Middle School until January of 1995.
