Nick Brooks

Nick Brooks was perhaps the greatest middle distance runner in Memphis track history. He came to the Tigers from England in 1978 after being named the Great Britain International Athlete of the Year in 1977, where he had twice won the All England Schools 800 meters. His record continued to grow at the University of Memphis where he won the Tennessee State championship in the 800 meters in 1978, 1979 and 1980. In 1979 and 1980 he won the Metro Conference championship in the 800 meters. Brooks qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1980 and placed second, receiving all-America honors. He remains the Memphis record holder for 800 meters with a time 1:47.01.
