Eric Harris, a graduate of Hamilton High School in Memphis, played football from 1973-76 under former head coaches Fred Pancoast and Richard Williamson. He started and played in every game during his career working as a safety. Harris recorded 143 career solo tackles, 75 assisted tackles, 28 blocked passes, five fumble recoveries and 13 pass interceptions during his Memphis career. In 1976, the native Memphian was named to four first team All-America teams, including NCAA Consensus All-America squad. Additionally, Harris was named to the All-South Independent team in 1973, 1974 and 1976 and was selected to play in the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic in Montgomery, Alabama and the Senior Bowl in Mobile in 1976. Drafted in the 1977 NFL Draft, Harris opted to sign with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and played for two seasons in Canada. In 1979, he became the first $1 million defensive back in the NFL when he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Harris stayed with the Chiefs until 1983 when he signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
