Don Holcomb

Don Holcomb played basketball at St. Andrews High School and Frederick (Va.) Military Academy before signing with the University of Memphis in 1968.

He won the Tigers starting center position as a sophomore, and for three years, battled along with teammate Fred Horton to bring Memphis back to basketball greatness. He scored 1,118 career points and amassed 870 rebounds over three seasons and finished his career as just the eighth player in school history to surpass 1,000 point mark.

After leaving the U of M, Holcomb played professional basketball in three countries and four cities in Europe from 1972 through 1977.

He returned to Memphis and earned his B.S. degree in Education. He taught at Memphis Prep while working on two additional degrees at Memphis.

In 1981 he became head basketball coach and a professor at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and remained there until 1990 when he became the head coach at Crockett County High. He later moved to Humboldt High where he served as assistant principal.

Holcomb and his wife, Helene, live in Jackson, TN and have two daughters, Renee and Leah.
