Dean R.M. Robison came to the campus of West Tennessee State Teachers College in the fall of 1927 and over the next 45 years helped guide the institution to the great University that it has become today. Robison arrived on the rural campus in the fall of 1927 as a history instructor and athletic director. He taught history for seven years before becoming the Principal of the Campus Training School. In 1937 he became the University Bursar and the Head of the Publications Committee. Dean Robison added the Athletic Committee as yet another duty in 1943 and held these responsibilities until 1944 when he took over as University Registrar. In 1950 Robison became the Dean of Men and later took the title Dean of Students in the 1960s. Robison was named the Assistant to the president and Dean of Students in 1968 and retired from the University in 1972 after 45 years of service.
