David Hallford, who graduated from CBHS, came to the Tigers in 1970. He led U of M to championships in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Tournaments in 1972 and 1973, and twice participated in the NCAA Golf Championships. Following graduation, Hallford began making his mark in statewide golf events. He won the 1975 West Tennessee Open, and later added the 1977 Tri-City Open championship and the 1983 Knoxville Open title. Hallford has been a member of the Tennessee PGA Cup Team in 1977, 79, 80, 81, 83, and 84, and has played in the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1976, 77, 78, 80, 81, and 83. He served as an assistant professional at Colonial Country Club from 1974 through 1978, and became head professional at Woodstock Hills Country Club in 1978. Hallford, who graduated magna cum laude from Memphis, finished first in his class at the PGA Business School in 1976. After working as a club professional in the Memphis area, he served as vice-president of True-Temper in their golf shaft division.
