Calvin Johnson ran for the Memphis State Tiger track and cross country teams from 1970-72. He was the first Memphis trackster to represent the University in the mile run at the NCAA Track Championships. He had previously set a school record of 4:05.7 in the mile run at the Central Collegiate Meet in Carbondale, Illinois, the same year. During his tenure, Johnson broke the Memphis State record for the 1,000-yard dash, the 800-yard dash, the 1,500 meter run and the 800 meter run. As a senior, he also ran in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Johnson is now the area supervisor for the Memphis City Schools Nutritional Services.
