- Induction:
- 1998
One of the most renowned receivers in Memphis football history, Bob Sherlag came to the University of Memphis in 1962 as a defensive specialist but soon laid claim to the wingback position. During the 1963 season, Sherlag caught eight passes for 183 yards and had two pass interceptions for the defense. As a junior he again caught eight passes for 184 yards and two scores, intercepted three passes for 93 yards and returned three punts for 72 yards as a touchdown. In the Wake Forest game he had a 63-yard interception return and a 55-yard punt return for a score. During his senior season, Sherlag set every Memphis receiving record. He caught 46 passes for 673 yards and nine touchdowns. His 10 catches for 186 yards and three scores against Mississippi State remains in the Tiger record book as one of the most outstanding performances by a Memphis receiver. He finished his career with 62 receptions for 1,040 yards. Following a stint in professional football, Sherlag returned to Palatine, Illinois, where he manages his custom home design and construction business.
