Kyler Trosclair Klatt, Baylee Smith and Molly Smith named Second-Team All-AAC
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team landed three players on the American Athletic Conference's second team as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. Kyler Trosclair Klatt, Baylee Smith, and Molly Smith all were named to the second-team while Baylee Smith was coined to the All-Rookie Team.
This is the third time Trosclair Klatt has been recognized by the conference for her efforts during the season. In 2015, Trosclair Klatt was the league's Rookie of the Year and in 2017, she was named First-Team All-AAC.
Â
Trosclair Klatt led Memphis this season with a career-high .401 batting average in 187 at bats with 75 hits, four doubles, and eight triples. Her regular season average and hit total rank second all-time in program history. Earlier this season, Trosclair Klatt became the all-time career hits leader as well as the all-time runs scored leader.
Â
The Houma, La. native has also registered a career-high 36 RBIs in the leadoff spot this season for the Tigers. She has started in every single game of her career, including all 56 games this season. She was also the first Tiger to win AAC Player of the Week honors this season on March 5.
Â
Baylee Smith, a Henderson, Tenn. native, made an immediate impact as a true freshman. Smith finished the regular season with a .383 batting average, ranking second on the squad and third in The American in that category. She also finished second on the team with 59 hits and led Memphis, along with Trosclair Klatt, with 36 RBIs.
Â
Starting in left field for 51 games this season, Smith was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on March 13 after going 12-for-17 at the plate with nine RBIs, a pair of doubles, and four stolen bases. Smith finished the regular season second on the team with 14 swipes.
Â
Molly Smith had a senior year to remember for the Tigers. Now the all-time wins leader and strikeout leader at Memphis, Smith finished the regular season with a 24-9 overall record in 43 appearances for the Tigers. Her 1.92 ERA is a career-low and she is one of just four players in program history to register under a 2.00 ERA with at least 100 innings pitched.
Â
In her program-leading 11th shutout of the season against Tulsa, Smith broke Ellen Roberts' strikeout record set in 2014 with her 489th K. Smith has also hurled a career-high 215 strikeouts this season, which is second on the all-time list.
Â
In addition to the strikeouts and victories, Smith has been named the AAC Pitcher of the Week, twice, and has thrown two complete game no-hitters this year. Her first no-hitter against UMBC on Feb. 23 was the first Memphis no-no since the 2012 season.
Â
After finishing with a program-record 10 wins in AAC play, Memphis will take on UCF in the AAC Championship as the No. 5 seed Thursday. First pitch against the Knights is set for 3 p.m. at the USF Softball Stadium in Tampa, Fla. For more information on the Memphis softball team, follow us on Facebook and Twitter at @MemphisSoftball.Â
