Memphis finished the regular season with a 36-20 overall record

HOUSTON, Texas. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in the series finale Sunday afternoon to Houston by a score of 8-0 at the Cougar Softball Stadium. Memphis finishes the 2018 regular season with a 36-20 overall record and 10-11 mark in American Athletic Conference play.

The Cougars took an early lead over the Tigers with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. Houston ultimately tacked on one in the second and three in the fourth to distance itself from Memphis.

Memphis' Brooke Lee recorded a single in the top of the fifth in an attempt to rally against the Cougars, but Houston proceeded to sit the Tigers down in order.

Molly Smith was handed the loss and falls to 24-9 on the year. Mariah Nichols and Katie Brignac also saw time in the circle for the Tigers.

Bottom 1 – A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Cougars. With one out, Houston hit a grand slam to left center to take a 4-0 lead. (4 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 2 – The Cougars tacked on one run in the bottom of the second with a single combined with a triple. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 4 – With one out, Houston singled up the middle, got hit by a pitch, and walked to load the bases. Another walk combined with a sacrifice fly and another single scored three total runs in the inning. (3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base).

Next Up For The Tigers
Memphis now heads to the AAC Tournament in Tampa, Fla. on May 10-12. The Tigers are likely the No. 5 seed in the tournament and the bracket will be released later today once regular season play has finished.
