Tigers Rally To Defeat Murray State Wednesday

Three runs in the bottom of the sixth push Memphis to a 5-4 victory
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning helped propel the University of Memphis softball team to a 5-4 victory over Murray State Wednesday evening. Memphis improves to 31-15 on the year with conference foe UConn coming up this weekend.

The Tigers saw themselves down early after a two-run first inning by the Racers. In the bottom half of the second, however, Memphis put together its first of two, two-out rallies to tie up the contest at 2-2.

Two more runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning put Murray State back on top of the Tigers. Again, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Memphis had an answer.

With the bases loaded, Baylee Smith delivered the game-winning hit, a single up the middle, to score two to put Memphis on top. Delaney Smith drove in the first run of the inning with her team-leading fourth hit of the night.

Molly Smith came in relief for the Tigers and earned her 19th victory of the season. She allowed just two hits in 2.2 innings of work while striking out two.

Top 1 - A one out walk and a passed ball put a runner in scoring position for Murray State. A double to left center scored the first run of the inning. With two outs, another double drove in a second run. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 2 – Brooke Lee led the inning off with a five-pitch walk and advanced to second on a ground out by Jessie Lamb. Lee scored on a two-out single up the middle by Erin Parker, who scored on a single through the right side by Kyler Trosclair Klatt. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
Top 5 – After a one out triple, a double to left center drove in a run. After putting runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly scored a second run. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 6 – Brooke Lee singled to open up the inning, and Regan Hadley advanced Lee to second with the help of a fielding error. With two outs, singles by Delaney Smith and Baylee Smith drove in three runs, putting the Tigers ahead for good. (3 runs, 4 hits, 1 error, 3 left on base)

- With her second hit of the game, Kyler Trosclair Klatt notched her 237th career hit, which ties the school record for most hits in a Tiger career set by Lindsay Crowdus last year.
- Baylee Smith drove in two runs in the sixth inning, giving her 33 on the season. She now leads the team in RBIs.
- Molly Smith picked up her 19th win of the year, approaching the top of the record books for wins in a single season. She now sits five wins away from the single season record of 24.
- Delaney Smith finished 4-for-4 at the plate today, including two hits when the Tigers had two outs. Her two-out hit in the sixth inning drove in a run and allowed Memphis to take the lead one batter later. It was the first four-hit game of the season for Smith.
- Brooke Lee scored a team-high two runs, including the first of three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
