Northwestern State Rallies Late To Defeat Memphis, 4-2

Trosclair Klatt and Lamb led the squad with two hits apiece

NATCHITOCHES, La. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped the first game of the Lady Demon Classic Thursday evening to Northwestern State by a score of 4-2 in Natchitoches, La. Memphis had the early lead before the host squad rallied in the later inning. Memphis falls to 3-2 on the year.

Memphis jumped out early against the Lady Demons with two runs in the second inning. The first of two runs for Memphis came when the double steal of Erin Parker and Regan Hadley from first and third was completed successfully. Brooke Lee then recorded her fourth hit in five games to drive in Parker to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Northwestern State, however, chipped away at the Memphis lead with one in the third and one in the fifth before taking over the lead for good in the sixth. Only one of the four Northwestern State runs were earned as the Lady Demons took advantage of Memphis defensive miscues.

Mariah Nichols, in just one inning of action, was dealt the loss. Molly Smith started the game for the Tigers and the two combined for a pair of strikeouts and one earned run allowed.

Who Stood Out
Kyler Trosclair Klatt / SS / Senior / Houma, La.
Trosclair Klatt led the Tigers offensively with her third multi-hit performance of the season. She also recorded her 66^th career stolen base in the first inning.

Jessie Lamb / OF / Junior / Metropolis, Ill.
Lamb finished with two hits along with Trosclair Klatt for her second multi-hit game of the season. She also recorded one of the four Memphis stolen bases.

Brooke Lee / DP / Senior / Meraux, La.
In the top of the second inning, Lee recorded an RBI single to extend the Memphis lead to 2-0. She has recorded a hit in four out of the first five games of the season.

Regan Hadley / C / Junior / Georgetown, Ind.
Hadley reached base successfully in all three trips to the plate and scored one of the two runs for the Tigers. She drew two walks, got hit by a pitch, and stole her first base of the season.

Top 2 – Regan Hadley led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. The Tigers then put runners on first and third as Erin Parker reached on a fielding error. The pair proceeded to trick the Northwestern State defense with a double-steal for the first run of the game. Brooke Lee then drove Parker home with an RBI single to center field. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Bottom 3 – Northwestern State took advantage of a Memphis miscue by driving in a runner on second with an RBI single to right field. (1 run, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Bottom 5 – The Lady Demons tied up the contest with a pair of singles to the outfield. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 6 – Northwestern State, with two outs, took over the lead from the Tigers. The Lady Demons recorded a pair of singles before taking advantage of Memphis miscue. A double steal with runners on the corners scored the fourth run of the game. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 0 left on base)
