Memphis begins the regular season at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament on Feb. 9
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team began spring practice this week and despite the winter storm that rolled through Memphis, the Tigers were able to get to work in their indoor batting cages while they wait for the snow to melt on the field.
"We're definitely happy to be back as a group," said head coach Natalie Poole who enters into her seventh season at the helm of the Tiger program. "We left them with a good fall season and a plan of things to work on. I feel like all of them did the work over the break and I'm happy about how we came back in shape and ready to work."
Throughout the offseason, members of the team worked on individual skill sets that will now be applied to the team workouts.
"Strategy wise I believe the team is thinking right and their energy is good. It is very nice to be back together as a group," added Poole.
With 25 members on Memphis' roster, the Tigers have added depth this season. The team boasts seven seniors including First-Team All-American Athletic Conference pick Kyler Trosclair Klatt, who finished the 2017 season with a .394 batting average. In the circle, Memphis returns seniors Molly Smith, Christian Novak, and Katie Brignac.
The season begins on Feb. 9 at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. Memphis will compete in three tournaments away from Memphis before returning home for three tournaments at the Tiger Softball Complex during the month of March. Additional marquee home games for the Tigers include SEC foes Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
