Late Inning Heroics Lead Tigers To Sunday Win

Tigers take the series to end the regular season on two-game winning streak
STORRS, Conn. – Two runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning led the University of Memphis softball team to a 2-0 victory over UConn Sunday afternoon, gifting the Tigers their second series win of the conference schedule. The Tigers end the regular season with a 28-26 overall record and 7-11 conference mark and will head into the conference tournament on a two-game winning streak.

The first six innings of play proved to be a pitchers duel as there were just a combined five hits between the two squads. The Memphis offense came alive, however, in the top of the seventh inning by stringing together four consecutive hits to score two runs.

UConn threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a walk and a single and with two outs, but Molly Smith persevered and struck out the final batter for her 10th victory of the year.

Smith finished the game with seven strikeouts and only one walk, all while allowing just four hits.

Notables
- Kyler Trosclair led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. She now has 22 multi-hit games this season.
- Trosclair, Stickrod, and Hadley all recorded hits in every game this weekend.
- This is the second American series this season that Memphis has won. The Tigers have taken the last two series away from UConn.
- Smith pitched her 13th complete game and second shutout against the Huskies.
