Memphis looks to take the series Sunday against the Huskies

STORRS, Conn. – After dropping game one of the doubleheader by a 1-0 margin, the University of Memphis softball team rallied in game two to defeat the Huskies by a score of 8-2. Memphis scored a season-high six runs in the top of the seventh inning capped by a grand slam by Regan Hadley en route to the victory in game two.

Memphis moves to 27-26 on the year and 6-11 in American Athletic Conference play.

A home run proved to be the difference in game one as offense was held at a minimum by both pitching staffs. Molly Smith was handed the loss in game one, but redeemed herself in relief in game two to move to 9-12 on the year. Katie Brignac pitched 5.2 innings and allowed just five hits with three strikeouts.

The Tigers took an early lead in the back half of the doubleheader before the Huskies evened up the score in the bottom of the sixth inning. A six run seventh by the Tigers which included Hadley's grand slam, put the game out of reach for the home Huskies.

Notables

Tyler Johnson recorded a pair of doubles in game two.
Kyler Trosclair registered her sixth triple of the season, which ignited the offense into score two runs in game two.
Regan Hadley's grand slam in the top of the seventh inning was her third home run of the season and first grand slam of the year. It was also the Tigers' first grand slam this year.
Trosclair, Maxwell, Johnson, and Stickrod all recorded multi-hit games in game two.
Trosclair, Stickrod, and Hadley all recorded hits in both games for the Tigers.
Memphis played error-free ball on Saturday.

Game 1: UConn 1, Memphis 0

Bottom 4 – Valerie Sadowl hit a two out, solo home run to left centerfield, scoring the only run of the game. (1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)

Game 2: Memphis 8, UConn 2

Top 3 – With one out, Kyler Trosclair tripled to right centerfield, igniting the Tiger offense. She quickly scored on a single to second by Addison Maxwell. Lindsay Crowdus then reached on a fielder's choice play and came around to score on a double by Tyler Johnson. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 6 – Back-to-back singles put runners on first and second for the Huskies. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third and a sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game for UConn. Another single through the left side tied up the contest at 2-2.
Top 7 – Hannah Harrell reached base by getting hit by a pitch with one out. Back-to-back singles by Trosclair and Maxwell loaded the bases for Crowdus. Crowdus reached on an error, allowing Harrell to score the go-ahead run. A single to the shortstop by Stickrod drove in the second run of the inning and with the bases still loaded, Regan Hadley hit the first Tiger grand slam of the season to break open the contest. (6 runs, 4 hits, 1 error, 0 left on base)
