Softball Splits With Houston In Friday Doubleheader

Tigers rally in game one before dropping game two
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team overcame a five-run deficit in game one to defeat Houston by a 6-5 margin before falling in the nightcap by a score of 7-3. Memphis will look to take the series over the Cougars Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

The Tigers move to 26-24 on the year and 5-9 in American Athletic Conference play after the split. It was the first win over Houston since the 2015 season when the Tigers took two of three at home.

Houston jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two in the second. At that point in time, Katie Brignac came in to pitch for the Tigers and momentum started to shift as Brignac silenced the Houston offense.

After four innings of hitless ball for the Tigers, Regan Hadley ignited the Memphis offense into four runs on six hits to cut the Houston lead down to one. Two more runs were plated by Memphis in the sixth and Brignac went on to earn her seventh victory of the season.

Memphis took an early lead in game two, but seven unanswered runs including a pair of home runs in the fifth lifted Houston to the 7-3 victory.

- Addison Maxwell drove in three runs in game one, making that the second game this season she has recorded three RBI.
- Tyler Johnson extended her on base streak to 14 straight games.

- Lindsay Crowdus has increased her hit total to 79 on the year and she has extended her hitting streak to five games.

- Top 1 – Three straight singles led to the first two runs scoring for the Cougars. Houston drew a walk with no outs and a runner on third and a sacrifice fly drove in the third run of the inning. (3 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Top 2 – The leadoff batter reached base by way of a Memphis error. Three singles in the span of four batters led to two more runs scoring for the Cougars. (2 runs, 3 hits, 2 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Regan Hadley and Erin Parker led the inning off with a pair of singles for the Tigers. Hannah Harrell loaded the bases on a single to third and a single by Addison Maxwell with two outs drove in the first two runs of the game for Memphis. Lindsay Crowdus backed Maxwell's efforts with a double in the gap in left center to score Trosclair and Crowdus scored on a single up the middle by Tyler Johnson. (4 runs, 6 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Regan Hadley led the inning off with a five-pitch walk. She then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Erin Parker and scored three batters later on a fielder's choice play by Trosclair. A single to left field by Maxwell scored Jessie Lamb to give Memphis a 6-5 lead. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Game Two: Houston 7, Memphis 3
- Bottom 2 – Back-to-back doubles by Tyler Johnson and Regan Hadley scored the first run of the game for Memphis. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 3 – Houston led the inning off with a single to left field. That base runner advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a bunt single. A sacrifice fly to center drove in the game-tying run. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 5 – Houston hit two home runs, one a solo shot and one a two-run home run to take a 4-1 lead over Memphis. (3 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Top 7 – Houston put together three doubles to score the first two runs in the top of the seventh inning. A single through the right side drove in the third run of the inning. (3 runs, 5 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 7 – Tyler Johnson doubled to drive in Trosclair and Harrell before Addison Maxwell was thrown out at the plate to end the game. (2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
