Tigers Cruise To Pair Of Wins Over Alcorn

Softball combines for 15 runs on 26 hits in the doubleheader sweep
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team got two games back Tuesday night with a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State. Memphis won game one by an 8-2 margin before rolling to a 9-1 victory in game two.

The Tigers improve to 25-23 overall as they head into a conference series against Houston this weekend.

Memphis racked up five runs in the first two innings of game one to take an early lead. The Lady Braves got two runs back in the third, but Memphis put the game away with three tallies in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Game two started off a bit slower for both offenses, but two runs in the third and five in the fourth by Memphis put the momentum in favor of the Tigers. Molly Smith went two and a third perfect innings before giving up the first Lady Braves hit of the game.

The Tiger offense most certainly returned Tuesday as the Tigers finished the night with 26 hits, 17 runs, a double and two triples.

- Lindsay Crowdus went 6-for-7 with four RBI to lead the Tigers. She also hit her ninth triple of the season in game one.
- Four Tigers registered multiple hits in game one. The 12 total hits by the Tigers in game one and 14 hits in game two mark the 14th and 15th times this season Memphis has recorded double-digit hits.
- Memphis stole five bases in game one and 10 in game two to improve its season total to 113 swipes.
- The 10 stolen bases in game two is a program record for swipes in a game.
- Kyler Trosclair recorded her fifth triple and Memphis' 20th triple of the season in the third inning of game three.
- Molly Smith and Christian Novak each recorded victories for the Tigers.

Game One: Memphis 8, Alcorn State 2
- Bottom 1 – Kyler Trosclair led the inning off with a walk and promptly stole second. Three straight hits by Addison Maxwell, Lindsay Crowdus, and Tyler Johnson scored the first two runs of the game. A single two batters later by Regan Hadley scored Johnson. (3 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 2 – Back-to-back singles by Hannah Harrell and Trosclair put runners on base for Crowdus. Crowdus then hit her ninth triple of the season to left center to drive in those runners. (2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 3 – The first two batters reached base on a pair of hit by pitches and scored on a pair of singles. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Harrell led the inning off with a bunt single to the catcher. She scored on the next pitch after stealing second and taking third and home on a throwing error. Two more runs scored by taking advantage of wild pitches and a pair of errors after Crowdus singled to centerfield. (3 runs, 3 hits, 3 errors, 0 left on base)
Game Two: Memphis 9, Alcorn State 1
- Bottom 3 – With one out, Trosclair tripled to right center. She and Crowdus, who reached on a bunt single to third, scored on a single to right by Johnson. (2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 4 – Back-to-back walks put runners on for the Lady Braves. A pass ball advanced them a base and the lone run scored on a single to the shortstop. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 4 – Jessie Lamb got the offense rolling on a bunt single to first base. She stole second and advanced to third on a hit by Harrell. Trosclair walked to load the bases and two runs scored on a single to left by Maxwell. The bases were loaded once again with a Crowdus walk and two more runners scored on a ball hit by Johnson that was ruled a fielding error. The fifth run of the inning scored on a bunt single by Lindsey Stickrod. (5 runs, 4 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – After Lamb and Harrell both had hits and a pair of stolen bases, Trosclair filled the bases after being walked. Maxwell's single to left center scored Lamb and advanced all runners for Crowdus who drove in the ninth run of the game. (2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
