Softball Falls In Extras To Belmont, 5-4

Tigers and Bruins compete in an 11-inning game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team was unable to hang on to its lead in the 10th and the 11th as it fell to Belmont Wednesday evening by a score of 5-4 in 11 innings. The Tigers fall to 15-12 overall with their first conference series coming up this weekend at home.

The Tigers found themselves in a hole early as Belmont scored two in the second inning. The pitching duo of Molly Smith and Christian Novak kept the Bruins from scoring throughout the heart of the contest while Memphis got runs back in the third and the sixth to tie up the contest at 2-2. The score remained at that until the top of the 10th when Memphis took a 3-2 lead.

Belmont came back and tied it with two outs in the bottom half of the 10th. Memphis then took the lead one more time in the 11th before back-to-back Bruin singles drove in the final two runs needed to win the game.

- Lindsay Crowdus is now a perfect 18-for-18 in stolen bases this season after recording one in the fourth inning.

- Top 3 – Jessie Lamb led the inning off by reaching base on an error. She advanced to second on a stolen base and scored on back-to-back sacrifice bunts by Hannah Harrell and Kyler Trosclair. (1 run, 0 hits, 1 error, 0 left on base)
- Top 6 – Trosclair singled up the middle to lead off the inning. A single up the middle by Lindsay Crowdus two batters later brought Trosclair around to score. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Top 10 – With Brooke Lee on second with one out, a bunt single by Jessie Lamb moved her to third. She proceeded to score on an illegal pitch with the bases loaded. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 2 left on base)
- Bottom 10 – A pair of singles led to the tying run to score for Belmont. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
- Top 11 – Lindsey Stickrod doubled to left center to score Addison Maxwell who was placed on second. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
