Smith and Crowdus Honored After Opening Weekend

Molly Smith named American Pitcher of the Week; Crowdus put on Weekly Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After going 3-2 on opening weekend, the University of Memphis softball team had two players recognized for their efforts by the American Athletic Conference. Junior Molly Smith was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week while senior Lindsay Crowdus was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Smith finished the weekend going 1-1 with a 1.11 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched. Smith earned the start and the win over Florida International Friday night where she gave up zero earned runs with four strikeouts. The junior from Yamhill, Ore. finished the weekend with eight Ks and just two earned runs allowed.

This is the first time in her career that she has been named the American Pitcher of the Week.

Crowdus had an outstanding weekend at the plate, going 11-for-14 with a pair of triples and a double as well as a perfect 3-for-3 showing on the base paths. Between game three and game five of the weekend, Crowdus had a streak of nine official at bats in a row where she recorded a hit, making that the longest streak in Memphis history. The senior from Houma, La. recorded a hit in every game and scored a team-high four runs. Â

This is the seventh time in her career that Crowdus has been named to the American Weekly Honor Roll.

Memphis remains on the road next weekend for the DeMarini Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. First pitch against Boise State on Feb. 17 is set for 2:15 p.m. CT. Memphis will compete against Boise State, Utah State, Hawaii, UNLV, and Nevada over the course of the weekend.
