MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The University of Memphis left nine runners on base and outhit the College of Charleston 9-6 in a 4-1 loss Saturday night in the CofC Invitational at Patriots Point.

All four Cougar runs were unearned resulting from three Tiger errors. Charleston pulled ahead with three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a one-all tie.

Charleston (13-13) scored first and took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off a one-out double by Rebecca Mueller following a two-base error that put Taylor Dupree on second.

Memphis (7-11) battled back and tied the game in the fifth inning on a triple by Cierra Mangum to right field that scored Hannah Harrell from second. It was Mangum's first career triple.

Molly Smith (1-2) started in the circle for the Tigers and struck out a season best six batters. The freshman pitched five and a third innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits with four walks.

Harrell led Memphis at the plate with three hits in four at bats with the run scored. Lindsay Crowdus also tripled in the game to extend her hitting and reach base streak to a career best 10 games. It was the ninth career triple for Crowdus, tying her for the school record in just her sophomore season.

Mangum finished 2-for-4 in the game with an RBI.

Memphis had runners in scoring position in all but one inning. Crowdus was thrown out at home in the third trying to score from third on a sharply hit single to left by Mangum.

Samantha Martin (5-3) earned the victory for Charleston. Martin allowed one run on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Mueller led the Cougars with two hits, while Mackenzie Maples drove in two runs with a double in the sixth.

Memphis will close out the tournament on Sunday with a single game against Furman at 10 am CT/11 ET.
