MEMPHIS HEAD COACH Windy Thees
Opening Statement
"We wanted to go out there and play hard in every inning. Let me tell you, those 20 kids wanted it. It just didn't fall our way today. You have to give credit to their freshman (Jordan Lewis). We missed pitches to her and she didn't miss swings. That was really the difference in the game."
On Jessica Phillips' game-tying home run:
"Jessica got us right back in it. I knew we were going to score so trailing 1-0 was not a huge worry for me. Our girls were getting better every at bat. Once you start to see Toni Paisley two and three times in a game, you do a little better. She still has your number a little, but I knew we would start putting the bat on the ball. The home run was great to see, but we just made some mistakes with our pitches and ECU capitalized - especially with two outs."
On Memphis' NCAA Tournament prospects:
"We are going to find out where we go Sunday night since we will be in a regional. If not, it was a great season and we can be really proud of taking the next step for our program."
Jessica Phillips, MEMPHIS (Junior First Baseman)
Opening Statement
"We wanted to win today more than anything. I don't know what it is, but East Carolina is our biggest rival. We weren't at our absolute best today and you have to be - especially on the road. We may be done here at the conference tournament but our season is not finished. Memphis will surprise someone next weekend."
On her game-tying home run:
"It's hard to explain the feeling of hitting a home run. It was awesome, especially with these teams being the most evenly-matched of any in the tournament. We just couldn't come out ahead in the end."
On the season overall:
"This is the best team I have played on in my three years at Memphis. My past teammates are great but we really meshed this season. Our record this year is the best in program history because of the hard work of all our girls and the care and dedication of our coaching staff."
