MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis softball team powered its way to a 12-4 run-rule victory against Alabama State on Wednesday to complete a doubleheader sweep at the Tiger Softball Complex.

The Tigers (23-10) recorded a school record four triples in the game with two hit by both Maddie McKinley and Kamri Chester. Memphis also had a season high 15 hits, with 12 going for extra bases. The U of M compiled seven doubles in the game by five different players.

Senior shortstop Heather Mott led the team with a 3-for-3 performance and a career-best five RBI in the win. Mott had two doubles and hit the program's first ever inside the park home run in the fourth inning for her sixth homer on the season.

McKinley and Jessica Phillips also had three hits in the game. McKinley finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Phillips went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. In the two games, Phillips went 5-for-7 with four RBI and three runs scored and McKinley finished 5-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Freshman Ellen Roberts (3-0) earned the victory in the circle, pitching six innings and allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Roberts also went 2-for-4 in the game with two RBI, including a walk-off double in the sixth to complete the run rule victory.

Alabama State (8-22) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on two hits, but Memphis scored two runs in the first and two more in the second to take the lead back for good. The Tigers scored in every inning, capped by a three-run sixth that ended with nobody out.

Memphis will begin its second half of the Conference USA schedule this weekend when the team travels to Huntington, W.Va., for a three-game series with Marshall on Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. (12 CT) and a noon (11 a.m. CT) contest on Sunday.
