Sunday marked the last day of fall camp. The team broke down film from the first scrimmage on Saturday and then came out in a helmet only Sunday practice. Monday marks the first day of classes at the University of Memphis and the Tigers move into the NCAA-mandated 20 hour practice week.

Football Fall Camp: Day Eight, Scrimmage One (Saturday, August 15, 2020)
For the first time since hoisting the American Athletic Conference Championship trophy on the field, the Tiger football team returned to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium for a Saturday scrimmage. The scrimmage saw big plays on both sides of the ball as the staff set up the team to go ones versus ones, twos versus twos and threes versus threes before mixing it up and adding some special teams work.

The team donned just shells on Friday afternoon for a shortened practice leading into the first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday. Saturday's practice at the Liberty Bowl would normally have been the team's Fan Fest. Instead, the team will practice in an empty Liberty Bowl, a challenge Head Coach Ryan Silverfield will show the coaching staff which players can bring their own energy in preparation for a season that may see Memphis playing in front of reduced crowd sizes.
“We're not going to play music, we're not going to have fans in the stands, all those things that younger players sometimes need to get fired up,” Silverfield stated. “Instead, we'll see who can bring it and get themselves motivated to play at a high level.”
The weekend practices will be the final two of camp before the University of Memphis starts fall semester classes on Monday. The nine-day training camp is a first, but one that Silverfield feels his players handled well.
“I think as coaches, we are so used to getting into a routine, so that's been a challenge. But our players have done wonderful in adjusting as we go and just focusing on whatever moment we are in, whether it's in a meeting, a walk-thru or practice.”
Memphis opens its 2020 season on September 5 against Arkansas State.
Football Fall Camp Day Six (Thursday, August 13, 2020)
Thursday was the first practice for the team after an off day and it gave the Memphis coaching staff a look at the way the team handled things after a day of rest.
“We're six practices in, but what I learned after a day away was we have a team that loves football,” Head Coach Ryan Silverfield said. “They really enjoy being around each other and we learned during quarantine and all those things that we missed each other and we missed the game. They are out here competing. They love being out here between the white lines, just like myself, and it allows us to focus just on football”
A morning and afternoon of heavy rains pushed the team back into the Indoor Practice Facility for a second straight practice, which allowed the staff to get in the full 25-period practice.

Football Fall Camp Day Five (Tuesday, August 11, 2020)
Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the IPF is so delightful ….
Practice number five began about the same time thunderstorms started to roll through the Mid-South, but the Tigers didn't miss a beat, stepping into the new facility to conduct a full 25-period, full-pad practice.
“Today was our first day in full pads, which was a lot of fun,” Head Coach Ryan Silverfield said. “I don't know if the guys were excited to be in full pads or the fact that I let them stay in and practice in the indoor practice facility. We're having a lot of fun, excited to be playing some football and we'll keep forging ahead.”
The Tuesday practice was the last before a scheduled off day on Wednesday. Following the team's first off day since camp opened on Friday, the Tigers are back on the field Thursday afternoon for practice number six of fall camp.
Memphis opens its 2020 fall schedule on September 5 with a non-conference clash against Arkansas State.

"They're just as excited as ever and we are treating this like a normal training camp, no different, progressing and looking forward to playing on the fifth."- Ryan Silverfield
Day four found the Tigers back on the fields of the Billy J Murphy Athletic Complex and working in shells for a second straight day. Mother Nature turned up the heat and humidity and tested some Tigers' in their first hot Memphis practice.
After practice, Head Coach Ryan Silverfield pointed out to the team that a week from today they will be in classes and back in the 20-hour work week, encouraging the team to take advantage of the camp reps while they could in the shortened camp calendar.
Tuesday's afternoon practice would mark the first in full pads for the team before the player's off-day on Wednesday.
Memphis opens its 2020 home schedule with a September 5 visit from the Arkansas State Red Wolves. That game will be played in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Day three of Memphis Football's fall camp featured a new sound – that of some pads popping as the team put on shoulder pads for the first time since December.
“Today was our first day in pads, so a lot of excitement out there,” Head Coach Ryan Silverfield said. “I keep encouraging our guys, have a lot of positivity, keep our blinders on and focus on what we can control and let's have a heck of a practice and I think they did. I just wanted to see them bring a lot of energy and they did."
The Tigers will remain in shells before they can go to full pad practices on Tuesday.
Memphis is scheduled to begin its 2020 season on September 5 against Arkansas State in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Day Two of the 2020 Tigers' fall camp featured another 24 period practice in the midst of a full day schedule. It marked a second day in helmets for the team in the acclimation period.
“Second day in helmets, the guys were able to watch a lot of the mistakes they made on film and a lot of the good things we were able to do, so a lot of lessons learned today,” Head Coach Ryan Silverfield said. "It's the first time they've been truly able to watch themselves full speed since the Cotton Bowl, so it was nice to get out there.
I've been positive, I've encouraged our staff, we're so fortunate, let's make the most of it every single day. I told our team the same thing when we were leaving the practice field, we are so lucky, we get to practice and I told them, there's a lot of places out there that aren't able to practice and as long as we continue to do things in a safe manner and stay focused we'll be able to continue to practice."
Sunday's practice will mark the first day in shells for the Tigers in another afternoon practice.
Memphis is scheduled to begin its 2020 season on September 5 against Arkansas State in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

The University of Memphis football team opened fall camp Friday in a day-long schedule that included a 24-period practice on the fields of the Billy J Murphy Complex.
"Today was wonderful," said Head Coach Ryan Silverfield. "Obviously a lot of excitement getting the guys out there on the field. You think about it and again we keep talking about this, it's been seven and a half months since we've played football and since these young men have been able to put on a helmet. There are a lot of new faces, but a lot of excitement for the 2020 football season and it's really nice to see a lot of enthusiasm out there. The biggest thing, like with any first practice, we've got a lot to clean up, execution issues, alignments and assignments, but we'll get it fixed and day one is in the books and we're excited to keep moving forward."
Working in helmets as part of the NCAA-mandated acclimation period, the team worked on all fields at the complex, including the newly-opened indoor practice facility.
Also new for 2020 will be a shorter training camp. With fall classes moving up to an August 17 start date, the football team will have just nine days of a traditional fall camp before moving to the 20-hour a week period once classes begin.
"It wasn't hard to get back in the football mindset," said senior defensive lineman O'Bryan Goodson. "Once we found that out (that the team could be together to begin practices), faces lit up and we're just excited to be back. We're just excited for day one to be over with and ready for day two."
Memphis opens its 2020 schedule with a Sept. 5 home game against Arkansas State in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
