MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis head coach Daron Schoenrock announced that Memphis inked Glenwood (AL) High School catcher, Keaton Aldridge to a National Letter of Intent, Monday afternoon. Aldridge is the Tiger's fourth signee of the early signing period.
"We are excited that Keaton has chosen to further his career with us at Memphis," said Schoenrock. "He possesses great defensive skills you look for in a catcher and has the confidence and leadership skills to impact our program very quickly."
Aldridge lettered one season behind the plate for head coach Tim Fanning at Glenwood, and two seasons for skipper Dan Drapal at Seaholm High in Birmingham, Mich.
Aldridge had a standout junior season at GHS, leading the Gators to a 38-6 finish and the 2010 AISA Class AAA State title. The 6-foot-2 catcher hit .496 with 63 hits, 57 RBI, 29 runs, 14 doubles and six homers en route to earning 2010 Alabama Sports Writers All-State honors. Aldridge, an AISA All-Star Game selection, also garnered All-Region and All-Bi-City accolades in 2010.
The left-handed hitting catcher earned an invite to the Under Armour-Baseball Factory National Tryout Event, where he was tabbed a top prospect.
Aldridge comes from a family of elite athletes. His father, Kirk, was a member of the U.S. National Hockey team. His uncle, Keith played one season (1999-2000) with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League.
