Winton Simmons was a baseball and basketball letterman for West Tennessee Teachers College from 1930 through 1933. A graduate of South Side High School in Memphis, Simmons came to WTSTC in the fall of 1930 and played for former head basketball and baseball coach Zach Curlin. The math major played forward for the basketball team in 1932-33 and 1933-34 and worked as a pitcher and outfielder for the Tiger baseball team during the same period of time. Following graduation from West Tennessee State Teachers College, Simmons began a career in education and would serve as the principal of Central High School in Memphis fore many years.
